I’ve been dating online for a couple of years now and have worked out a pretty good system of who not to pick and who to at least nudge or send a wink to.

If you date online long enough, you will see the same faces pop up on lots of different sites.  These are the ones to be particularly careful of.  They are either players or stalkers in my experience.

When chatting to someone for the first time, don’t give out your life history, everything that went wrong with your last relationship, your home phone number and where you work.  Keep it light hearted and very general until you’re comfortable with the person.  A sincere candidate will be happy with this and understand your reluctance to open up immediately.

Just because people are listed on dating sites doesn’t necessarily make them available or trustworthy.  Not everyone is like you.

I’ve come across stalkers, gamblers, sexual addicts, married men posing as single, single men posing as married, you name it, I’ve just about seen it all.  I’ll add more of my experiences on this site.
